Investor Visa / Investor KITAS – Purpose and Benefits

One of the largest barriers to obtaining a visa in Indonesia, particularly for young business owners, is the cost of the work permit. However, the Investor Visa, also called Investor KITAS, was reinstated by the Indonesian government in 2019, which simplified matters and led to significant cost savings.

For business investors in Indonesia, there is a special kind of visa called the Investor Visa, or Investor KITAS, which makes it easy for them to live and do business there. While the Investor KITAS was first launched in 2011 and was later changed in 2018 based on Law Number 6 of 2011, major improvements were not made to the system until 2019 when it underwent a rebranding. The Investor KITAS is now one of the most sought-after visas in the nation as a result of these modifications.

Advantages of Choosing an Investor KITAS over a Working KITAS

As per the BKPM’s later modifications to the Presidential Decree BKPM No. 5/2019, Indonesia provides further advantages to its resident investors. Previously, investors had to apply for a Working KITAS (Index code 312), which came with an annual US$1,200 obligatory working permission charge. This change lowers the cost of the visa by US$100 per month, or $1,200 annually, by removing the requirement for working permits for Investor KITAS holders.

Cost Savings with an Investor KITAS

Selecting an Investor KITAS can result in considerable savings for eligible individuals. There are two term lengths for the Investor KITAS: one year and two years. For instance, the two-year Investor KITAS has lower yearly KITAS processing expenses and a non-compulsory DPKK fund, which together save US$2,400 over the period. Throughout the two-year visa, our clients typically save about 40 million IDR.

Eligibility for an Investor KITAS

Dependent visas are supported by the Investor KITAS. The Investor KITAS application procedure is now more streamlined since the BKPM Recommendation Letter is no longer necessary. Currently, candidates may apply online directly to the immigration authorities, and the E-Visa is usually approved in a matter of days. In the past, a TELEX was submitted to an Indonesian embassy abroad and all visas were processed in Indonesia. To reduce the possibility of viral transmission, the Indonesian government did, however, develop E-Visas in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Furthermore, the payment of visa fees—which were previously made to the Embassy—occurs throughout the Indonesian application process.

You must change your VITAS into an Investor KITAS as soon as you get to Indonesia. Usually, this process takes ten to fourteen business days. Following the immigration office’s receipt of your passport, you will get a biometric session schedule and instructions for completing the conversion procedure. You will receive your new Investor KITAS when the procedure is finished, allowing you to live and run your business in Indonesia.

Necessary Documents for Processing the Investor KITAS

The following documents are required:

  • An investor’s passport valid for at least 18 months is required for a one-year KITAS application.
  • The company’s founding document and any modifications thereto.
  • Approval from the firm sponsor’s Ministry of Law and Human Rights (MoLHR), if relevant.
  • Company sponsor’s Tax Registration Number (NPWP).
  • Business Domicile.
  • License for Business.
  • The National Insurance Number (NIB).
  • If required, the Indonesian director of the firm sponsor’s ID card (KTP) and tax ID (NPWP).
  • A blank page on business letterhead.
  • A bank account statement with a $1,500 minimum balance.

Please be aware that the length of the Investor KITAS given depends on how long the applicant’s passport is valid. Only a one-year Investor KITAS will be issued for passports having a minimum 18-month validity. However, a two-year KITAS can be obtained if the passport is valid for longer than 30 months.

Costs Associated with the Investor KITAS

The Investor KITAS comes in two flavors: a one-year and a two-year version. The cost of a one-year KITAS in Jakarta is 15 million IDR, while a two-year KITAS is 18 million IDR. Since the two-year option offers more stability and results in total savings throughout the course of the visa, many people choose for it.
